SUBMISSIONS:

Our submission categories include Research Articles, Research Briefs, Industry Insights, and Patient Perspectives.

Submissions should offer valuable contributions to the field of patient experience, with clear implications for practice or policy.

We welcome submissions that focus on clinician and workforce experience.

We encourage articles that bridge the gap between research and real-world application, offering insights that can be implemented to improve patient outcomes and experiences.

  • Research Article submissions are typically characterized by a systematic investigation into specific aspects of patient experience, aiming to contribute new knowledge or validate existing theories. This article type must present original research conducted by the author(s) demonstrating innovative outcomes, processes, or applications to enhance patient care experiences, engagement, and satisfaction. Research methods may include qualitative, quantitative, and experimental studies, provided they adhere to high academic standards in methodology and data analysis.
  • Patient Perspectives articles amplify the voices of those who experience the health and care system firsthand, contributing to a deeper understanding of patient needs, challenges, and outcomes. Submitting authors must identify as first-hand patient, family, or caregiver identities. Perspectives may include (though not limited to): Patients who have directly experienced health and care services and/or Caregivers who have supported a patient through their healthcare journey and/or Relatives who have been involved in a patient’s care and/or Consumers of health and care products or services. Perspectives should be supported by relevant research, data, or literature that provides context and enhances the credibility of the insights shared. While clinicians, professionals, researchers, and other experts are invited to share their personal voice, perspective must represent the lived experience of the author. 
  • Industry Insights articles are authored by professionals, clinicians, researchers, and other experts working within the health and care industry. Insights include expert perspectives, experiences, and observations on current trends, challenges, and innovations. Articles should be supported by relevant research, data, or literature that provides context and enhances the credibility of the insights shared. Authors reference a range of existing literature, including peer-reviewed studies, meta-analyses, and relevant industry reports, to enhance the validity and reliability of their perspectives. This article type provides a bridge between academic research and practical application, offering valuable contributions to ongoing discussions within the health and care sector.
  • Research Brief present original research that is more concise than a full-length Research Article. This article type is designed for studies such as pilot projects, smaller sample investigations, or preliminary findings that provide early insights into patient experience. While more limited in scope, Research Briefs should address an important patient experience issue, highlight innovative approaches, and clearly note methodological limitations. These articles often showcase emerging outcomes, processes, or applications that have potential to enhance patient care experiences, engagement, and satisfaction.

REVIEWERS: 

The Journal of Patient Experience seeks dedicated volunteers to join our team of reviewers. As part of our double-blind peer review process, reviewers critically assess submitted manuscripts, providing constructive feedback to authors while ensuring the publication meets the highest standards of quality and rigor.

Reviewers are responsible for evaluating the relevance, originality, and clarity of articles, suggesting improvements, and recommending whether manuscripts should be accepted, revised, or rejected. This role is voluntary and provides an opportunity to contribute to advancing the field of patient experience.
